These two lucky homeowners took advantage of Federal and State solar PV rebates to get near net zero energy bills and a less than 5 year payback on their investment. Not a bad view either.
The framing went quick with pre-manufactured SIPs (Structurally Insulated Panels) on these two new construction homes. Lots of Tyvec was used to get the airtight seal around the envelope needed to hit the Passive House standard that only allows 0.6 ACH @50 Pascals of pressure once complete.
We’ve kicked off our first project with two new construction townhomes for Postgreen Homes in the up and coming East Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. These two homes are only two stories with slab on grade foundations and Solar PV on the roofs. They are being built to the Passive House standard which means lots and lots of insulation.
We thought they were joking when they spec’ed 10″ of XPS insulation or R-50 under their slab. Turns out they are quite serious. On top of that we are putting down a commercial vapor barrier and meticulously taping all seams and penetrations to create an extremely airtight foundation assembly that will later connect to the walls above.
